The Grand Canyon is an enormous, iconic, breathtaking place in northern Arizona. Scientists estimate that 5 to 6 million years ago Colorado River cut through the layers of rock as a result Canyon may have been found. 

Since the last Ice age, humans have inhabited the area around the Grand Canyon. In 1893 Grand Canyon was first protected as a forest reserve, and in 1919 it became the National Park of the United States.

The Grand Canyon was carved out by the Colorado River in northern Arizona in the US. The northeast end of the Grand Canyon starts at Lake Powell and the city of Page at the Utah-Arizona border. The western end of the Grand Canyon ar is where the Colorado River empties into Lake Mead at the Arizona-Nevada border.

2023 makes Grand Canyon National Park’s 10th anniversary. Archeological artifacts suggest that people lived in and around the Canyon some 12,000 years ago. Today it is still considered a sacred place to 11 native American tribes, disputes being moved on to reservations in the 1800s. 

Canyon National Park has hosted more than 211 million guests. This day is one of the most visited national parks in the country.

Located in the heart of the Grand Canyon the Skywalk is a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge that extends out over 70 feet at the canyon’s edge.  When you look down you can see right through the glass window to the whopping 4,000 feet plunging right below you. With the construction of over 1.2 million pounds of steel and glass, it’s able to withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake. Engineers used the same rod and plate method that the ancient Egyptians used on their pyramids

It also offers one-of-a-kind views of the spectacle that is the Grand Canyon. It gives you a front-row seat to the famed Eagle point can you guess how it? Eagle point is a rock formation that is held sacred by the Hualapai tribe it has an uncanny resemblance to that of an eagle. It said that in the early days an eagle flew down to the bottom of the Canyon to warn the people that lived there of a great flood that was coming. The Eagle then flew up to the Canyons rim and stayed there to watch over its people eventually turning into stone and it’s what is now known as Eagle Point which you can see today.

Grand Canyon from phoenix

The south rim of Grand Canyon National Park is a 3.5-Hour Drive from downtown Phonix. The 229-Mile route is a combination of Interstate and regular two-lance highways. It’s an easy drive that climbs up from Phonix at an elevation of 1090 feet, topping out at 7,000 feet at the south Rim.

If you want to drive from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, it's an easy trip almost completely done on interstate highways. The West Rim is the closest rim of the Grand Canyon az to Las Vegas. This rim is approximately 130 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. The other two tourable parts of the canyon north and south, are located over 270 miles from Las Vegas.
